What is an in-home sales system?
An in-home sales system is software that runs a face-to-face sales appointment in the customer's home, from pricing and presenting to quoting and signing the contract. It gives the whole sales team one shared price guide, one presentation, and one record of every quote and signed job.
Who uses an in-home sales system
Home improvement companies whose reps sell face to face in the customer's home. The owner sets pricing, sales managers run the team and hand out appointments, and reps measure, present, and close at the kitchen table.
Common trades
- Windows
- Doors
- Siding
- Roofing
- Gutters
- Bath
- HVAC replacement
The price guide is configurable, so any trade sold through in-home appointments can be set up.
What it replaces
Most in-home sales teams stitch the appointment together from three kinds of tools.
Paper price books
Binders go out of date the day prices change, and every rep ends up with a slightly different copy.
Spreadsheets
Measurement math and upcharges live in formulas only one person understands, on a laptop the homeowner should not see.
Separate quote and contract tools
Re-typing a quote into a contract app wastes time at the table and invites mistakes in the final price.
The core parts, and how Sylk System handles each
Every in-home sales system needs these five pieces working from the same data.
Price guide
The single source of truth for every product, option, and upcharge your reps can sell.
In Sylk: Sylk organizes items into categories and prices them by square foot, linear foot, each, or quantity. Items carry brand options and upcharges, quantities can be calculated by formula, and items can be limited to specific offices. Owners import and export it from Excel.
Presentation
What the homeowner sees on the rep’s screen during the appointment.
In Sylk: Client View turns the rep’s device into a homeowner-facing presentation with no costs, internal roles, or app navigation, and a “Your Consultant” section with the rep’s name, phone, and email.
Quote
The priced proposal the homeowner reviews, at the table or later.
In Sylk: Reps build quotes from the price guide and share them as a secure link or PDF with an expiration date. Sylk tracks each quote from draft to shared, sent, viewed, and converted, and shows when the homeowner last opened it.
Contract
The signed agreement that turns a quote into a job.
In Sylk: An accepted quote becomes a contract without re-entering anything. The homeowner signs and initials on the rep’s device, by drawing or typing, and the signed PDF is saved with the job.
Team management
Who can see and do what, and how appointments reach the right rep.
In Sylk: Sylk has owner, manager, and rep roles across multiple offices. Managers dispatch leads that reps accept or decline, reps set their availability and time off, and dashboards show each rep’s pipeline and the team as a whole.
Common questions
More answers on pricing, setup, and roles are on the FAQ page.
Is an in-home sales system the same as a CRM?
No. A CRM tracks contacts and pipeline, while an in-home sales system runs the appointment itself: pricing, presenting, quoting, and signing at the kitchen table. Sylk System includes contacts, leads, and dashboards, but it is built around what the rep does inside the home.
Do reps need a special device?
No. Sylk System runs in the web browser, so reps can use the tablet, laptop, or phone they already carry. The same account works on every device.
Can homeowners see our costs or internal notes?
No. Client View hides costs, internal labels, and app navigation, and shows the homeowner only the presentation, pricing, and their consultant’s contact details. Quote links and PDFs follow the same rule.
Can different offices sell from different price guides?
Yes. Each price guide item can be limited to specific offices, so reps only see what their office sells. Owners manage one price guide instead of keeping separate copies in sync.
How do we move our existing price book into Sylk?
You import it from an Excel spreadsheet. Owners can also export the price guide to Excel, make bulk changes, and import it back.
